Book Review: ‘Contagious: Why Things Catch On’ by Jonah Berger

I know that I’m a little late to the game here. This book has been out for some time, but I’m in the middle of a career transition here so I’m expanding my horizons. I was looking at great books to read for marketing and this book appeared to be exactly what I was looking for. I can tell you that it did not disappoint.

What I like most about this book is that it’s not just for traditional “marketers.” Many people can learn from the principals that Jonah Berger lays out in this book. You can learn something valuable from it if you are in marketing, business, sales, teaching, preaching, coaching, or just about anything else.

Most of us think about how things become contagious. We wonder about how an online video goes viral, or how a book becomes popular. We want to know how we can make our message stick and spread. This book answers those questions.

Berger takes all of his experience, mixes it with a wealth of research and packages it into easy to understand concepts. You can’t help but begin thinking about real world applications after each chapter. I guarantee that you will learn better ways to communicate messages after reading this book.
